1. What is the benefit of Kwik Dry® Technology?
DAP® 3.0™ innovative Kwik Dry® Technology allows you to caulk and expose the bead to water after just 3 hours without washing out. Traditional latex and silicone caulks and sealants may require a 24-36 hour waiting period before exposing to water. Kwik Dry® Technology offers a time-saving, worry-free solution by drastically reducing the wait between caulking and using the area. For outdoor applications, this means no waiting for ideal weather conditions to begin or complete a project. DAP® 3.0™ can be applied even in extreme weather and temperature conditions. The risk of washout by premature water exposure is greatly reduced which means no worries and a job done once, done perfectly and done for good. All DAP® 3.0™ Advanced Sealants are formulated with Kwik Dry® Technology.
2. I know DAP® 3.0™ Advanced Sealants can be exposed to water after 3 hours, but how long should I wait to paint over these products?
Most of these sealants are paintable with acrylic latex paints as early as 3 hours after application (surface may still be tacky) depending upon temperature and humidity. For best results when using a brush or roller, wait to apply paint 24 hours after application. Use an acrylic primer for oil-based paints.
3. What paints are compatible with DAP® 3.0™ Advanced Sealants?
Acrylic latex-based paints are compatible. Priming with an acrylic latex primer is necessary before painting with oil-based paints. Regarding the DAP® 3.0™ Kitchen & Bath Crystal Clear and All-Purpose Crystal Clear sealants specifically, paint with a high-quality latex paint only. Periodic repainting/touch-up may be required.
4. Can DAP® 3.0™ Advanced Sealants be applied on a surface with residual latex, silicone or urethane?
For best results, the removal of all old products is recommended. The surface should be clean, dry and free of all old caulk, dirt, dust and grease.
5. Why do DAP® 3.0™ Advanced Sealants come in a different style of cartridge?
DAP® 3.0™ Advanced Sealants are packaged in a thicker-walled cartridge to accommodate Kwik Dry® Technology and ensure product quality.
6. If I only use half of a cartridge, can I use the other half at a later date? If so, what are the proper storage conditions?
Yes. You should use the remaining product as soon as possible, preferably within a month after the cartridge is opened if stored properly. The cartridge should be stored below 80°F in a dry place. When ready to use again, remove the cured material at the tip or cut the tip back to reveal fresh product.
7. What does "self-leveling" mean as it relates to the DAP® 3.0™ Advanced Concrete Sealant?
The sealant will flow to fill a horizontal crack or gap and form a level surface. No tooling is required.
